Jezebel’s Plays

This work constitutes a systematic movement research based on a decisive external factor that intervenes substantially in the movement language of the individual (the dancer) and transforms it—either during the early stages of studio rehearsals or in real time during the performance on stage. The dancers assume roles of cause and effect, becoming players–sculptors and games–sculptures within a process of continuous revision of the produced movement image. The experimentation is supported by the accompaniment of experimental jazz music. The overall structure of the work unfolds through unpredictable shifts, playful discontinuities, and cultivates a sense that everything takes place for the sake of experimentation itself, without the necessity of linear progression. The work makes sporadic references to specific classical works of sculpture as well as to images of timeless historical figures. Scenic objects appear either to complement the movement image or to deconstruct and negate it. Concept / Choreography: Maria Gorgia,
