In Manoeuvres, the research focuses, on a first level, on the idea of processing and transforming a single movement phrase through a variety of structural methods, and on a second level, on the semiotic use of stage space in relation to the relationship between the solo dancer and the theatrical space. The work develops ideas of contrast between small, detailed movement and large-scale movement form, as well as the different spatial territories these occupy. The concept of chance in the evolution of movement form is extensively explored, along with the creation of dramatic tension through the anarchic use of a wide range of movement dynamics. The work applies several compositional techniques that first appeared in music after 1945 and were later adopted by a number of postmodern choreographers.
